Eider Cabins for People

Sleep under a roof – in the heart of nature. Stay comfortably in your own eider house and wake up with the World Heritage site right outside your door.

Close to nature – comfortable and sustainable

On Vega, the tradition of protecting the eider duck has been passed down through generations. To encourage the birds to return, islanders built small shelters – known as “e-houses” – to protect the ducks and their valuable down. These unique structures are part of the reason Vega was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Now, you can experience what it’s like to sleep in a modern version of an eider house – inspired by this proud legacy.

Sleep well – in the heart of the World Heritage Site

Our small cabins are built with the same care for the environment as the original e-houses. Here, you stay dry, warm and comfortable – with made-up beds, real down duvets and panoramic views of both the mountains and the sea. Each cabin is 9 m² and accommodates two people. The two 90x200 cm beds can be placed separately or joined to form a double bed.

  • Made-up beds and towels included
  • Electricity, lighting and a 500 W heater
  • Shelf space, hooks and a private terrace with seating
  • Child-friendly – children under 8 can share a bed with a parent
  • No space for extra beds

Modern facilities close by

Just a short walk away, the lower level of the barn has been converted into a spacious and modern sanitary building with 10 showers and 10 toilets. An additional toilet in eider house style is also located near the cabins.

Make things easy – add breakfast when you book your cabin, and enjoy your meals at our cosy barn restaurant. We serve lunch and dinner with local ingredients and flavours – and perhaps a glass of wine or two if you like.

Built on nature’s terms

The cabins are built on wooden platforms that gently follow the terrain. Wooden walkways and staircases lead you through the landscape from the main house up to the cabins – just a 90-second walk away. And if the cabins are ever removed, nature will remain untouched.
