Vegatrappa – Vega’s Most Scenic Hike
Climb nearly 2,000 wooden steps to the top of Ravnfloget for panoramic views of the Vega Archipelago, Søla and the open sea. A free, unforgettable experience for all ages.
Nearly 2,000 steps – and a memory for life
Vegatrappa is a spectacular wooden staircase leading to the top of Ravnfloget – a dramatic viewpoint with breathtaking views over the UNESCO-listed Vega Islands and the North Sea. The hike is free, accessible to most, and was voted “Nordland’s most beautiful mountain hike” by NRK Nordland in 2023. You can watch the video report here.
A scenic journey – step by step
The trail starts near the shoreline at Sundsvoll on Vega’s west side. Before reaching the staircase itself, you’ll walk a well-maintained trail with boardwalks, small stairs, and bridges – a gentle and pleasant approach to the climb.
After a few minutes’ walk, you’ll pass the reception area for Ravnfloget Via Ferrata, where you can grab a coffee or refreshment during opening hours – a great place to pause before your ascent begins.
Safe, sturdy, and scenic all the way
Vegatrappa is built from high-quality, pressure-treated timber and features nearly 2,000 solid steps. The staircase is wide, stable, and equipped with handrails on both sides, making it safe and enjoyable to hike – in all kinds of weather.
Along the way, you’ll find scenic rest stops and small art installations inspired by local nature, birdlife, and island culture. Each stop gives you new perspectives and perfect photo opportunities.
A stunning reward at the summit
At the top of Ravnfloget, you’ll find a sheltered rest area where you can sit back and enjoy a spectacular 360-degree view of the Vega Archipelago, the ocean and the iconic island of Søla. It’s the perfect spot to reflect, recharge, and celebrate your achievement.
